Why Security Grilles?

The main purpose of security grilles is to make it difficult for any one trying to enter a building illegally. However if an intruder is determined enough, has enough time and the correct tools to break through then eventually they will succeed. The common thief is often an opportunist burglar and will want to smash a window or break a door and gain entry, grab what they can and get out as quickly as possible. This is where security grilles are especially useful because they would slow down a burglar considerably. As well as providing the physical security they are also excellent visual deterrents. Most potential burglars would see a security grille and not even bother attempting to break through it. They are designed to work well with the alarm system if you have one. The alarm sensor (PIR) should ideally be pointed toward the window or door, so when these are attacked the alarm will sound. This will hopefully cause the burglar to panic and also give them very little time to attack the grille.

Security grilles can be used for many different applications i.e. windows, doors hatches or any other opening that may need added security. They are the more attractive option for physical security, especially for windows and can be manufactured in a wide variety of colours. When opened they can be neatly tucked behind vertical blinds or curtains.

This means that they do not look out of place in domestic properties as well as commercial buildings. There are different types of grilles available from the standard, bottom of the range grilles right up to the heavy duty insurance specification ones. The grilles will be custom made to the exact size which you require.

Window grilles should be fitted if possible on the inside of the opening because it makes gaining entry to premises very difficult. The problem with fitting the grilles externally is that in a secluded area of the premises the burglar will have ample time to break, lever, cut whatever is on the outside with little risk of being seen or disturbed. When fitted internally any one wanting to break into the premises would have to smash the glass first, this should then set off the alarm and leave very little time to attack the grille. Also there is a good chance that the burglar would cut themselves on the glass, leaving DNA evidence which would help the police to trace them.

Security grilles fitted to the inside doorways, where the door is inward opening means that the grille would need to be fitted on the face of the wall to clear the opening. This then would allow the door to open fully. Another option is to convert the door to outward opening, if this is possible. This would then allow the grille to be fitted in the reveal, which means it would be stronger. The door grilles are available with different types of bottom tracks such as lift up and lift out; these are for easy disabled access and to avoid trip hazards.

In overview then you can see that concertina security grilles are an excellent option for window and door security.
